Located just 12 kilometres north of the Cliffs of Moher , Doolin Cave is home to the Great Stalactite. At 7.3 metres it is the longest free hanging stalactite in the Northern Hemisphere. The Great Stalactite suspended from the ceiling like a chandelier was formed from drops of water over thousands of years. Discovered in 1952 by potholers it was opened to the public in 2006. Visitors to the cave can avail of a free farmland nature trail, it is a 1 kilometre leisurely stroll along pathways through pleasant rural surroundings with farm animals and plants along the way , it will entertain both young and old alike in this natural and beautiful setting.
